		<description>Sorry for the ridiculous delay in answering the question about the sewing birds--I obviously missed the question!

Sewing birds were used in the 1800&#039;s to help hold on to the embroidery the lady of the house was stitching.  The metal birds clamped onto a table, and the bird&#039;s mouth was spring loaded and helped to hold the stitching while she stitched.</description>
