Here are a few pictures that I took on the cruise to Alaska I took recently.

I plan to use all different colors of aquamarines, blues, etc., hoping to convey “iciness” in the cruise project for our Stitch Ahoy cruise. Let me know what you think!

So, now you will have to imagine what it will look like!

I have finished the cruise brochure for our upcoming Stitch Ahoy cruise to Alaska. It includes some information about Alaskan totem poles and The Legend of the Stitcher. Those already registered for the cruise will be getting the brochure in the mail once Eva gets her act together. Brochures are also being sent to Hoffman Distributors that they will send out to shops when Sue Hillis Design charts are sent.

And yes, there is a frog at the base of the totem pole. You will have to read the Legend of the Stitcher to find out why!

Project Book

Since coming home from Alaska, I have been busy working on the project book for our Stitch Ahoy cruise. Since I can’t show you those designs yet, I thought you would like to see the cover of the project book from our last Stitch Ahoy cruise. It was great fun to design and to stitch. The cover only shows a few of the designs included in the book. If you haven’t already read about the cruise, check out the cruise report.

The Alaska cruise promises to be just as much fun! I hope you will consider joining us!

Well, it worked!! I WAS inspired by the beauty of Alaska!! I expect to be very busy at my drawing board working on the exclusive cruise project for the 2009 Stitching Cruise. Too early for hints, but think beautiful blue colors from aquamarine to midnite blue, luscious silks and overdyed threads…I can’t wait to get knee deep into this project!

My ulterior motive (to get my husband hooked on cruises) also worked! We signed up for another cruise, our choice of destinations, within the next four years. I loved the “serenity of the sea” part of the cruise experience (and the staff to attend to my every need is enticing too!) and my husband enjoyed the “being at one with nature” part of the cruise. Of course the incredible dining experience also played into our trip.

The glaciers, the wildlife, the wilderness, the heritage of Alaska are all fascinating. I was drawn to the native heritage and the Southeast Native art I found in the Saxman Village in Ketchikan. Southeast Native societies developed a sophisticated oral tradition and used totem poles, masks, canoes, and boxes to carve out visual documents to pass on their cultural and historical information. I will be featuring some of their storytelling figures as part of the cruise project book.

Meanwhile, back to work on the 20 other projects on my drawing board!

Hello, Stitchers!

Thanks for visiting!

I am just finishing up packing because my husband and I getting ready for a cruise! He’s a cruise virgin and my limited experience consists of last year’s Stitching Cruise up the Eastern Seaboard into Canada. I had SUCH fun that I knew I had to get him to come with me so we’re heading for Alaska on Saturday! And actually, I’ll be doing some travel research for the Stitching Cruise I have scheduled for next year. I hope you’ll read about it on the Stitch Ahoy Cruise site and think about joining fellow stitchers for stitching, friendship, food and laughs!Oh! And I’ll have my drawing pad with me expecting to be inspired by the beauty of Alaska! I’ll be working on the exclusive stitching class project that will be taught on the 2009 Stitching Cruise!
